Irons Oaks is available year-round for your program needs.

All programs prices listed have a group size of 15 participants. If you have more than 15 participants, a second group will need to be created. Residents of Homewood, Flossmoor, and Olympia Fields should call for their special pricing.

If you are interested in a program for your TIGER, WOLF, BEAR or WEBELOS but it is not listed, let us know! Don't forget we also offer Merit Badges and Eagle Scout projects!

Tiger Cub -
Let's Go Outdoors (Achievement 5): Learn about weather with your five senses, hike our trails with a staff naturalist and make your own leaf id guide.
Length: 1.25 hrs
Completes: F, D, G

Fee: $50 per resident group/$60 per non-resident group



Feed the Birds (Elective 32): Make several types of feeders for our feathered friends.
Length: 1 hrs

Fee: $50 per resident group/$60 per non-resident group



Cleanup Treasure Hunt (Elective 33): Irons Oaks has 38 acres to locate un-natural treasures. Groups will receive a scavenger hunt list, gloves and bags. Sorting of items and activities will conclude the program

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (Elective 47): Did you know that not all plastics can be recycled and the 3 R’s are always in this order? We do, and Irons Oaks would love to show you why.

Wolf -
Your Living World (Achievement 7): We'll go on an earth-walk, pick up litter, and find other ways to help the environment. Create an action plan for improving your relationship with our planet. Discover how some people are helping the planet.
Length: 1.5 hrs

Fee: $65 R/ $75 NR group



Birds (Elective 13): Use binoculars, find nesting materials, build "nests", and share bird stories while on a bird hike through Irons Oaks.
Length: 1.5 hrs

Fee: $65 R/ $75 NR group



Outdoor Adventure (Elective 18): We will start off the program with some cooperative games and then go on a hike looking for natural treasures and poisonous plants.
Length: 1.5 hrs

Bear -

Sharing Your World With Wildlife (Achievement 5): Discover the duties of a wildlife conservation officer, how native wildlife lives at Irons Oaks, and about a native species that is now extinct. Create a poster with all your new found knowledge.
Length: 1.5 hrs

Tying It All Up (Achievement 22): Learn basic knot skills, including coiling a rope and whipping a rope. We'll also practice your skills at hitting a marker 20 ft. away! At the end of this program, a discussion of how these skills can be useful will take place.

Length: 1.5 hrs

Nature Crafts (Elective 12): In this program you will make shadow prints of leaves, create animal tracks with eraser prints, and build a water scope to identify aquatic life.

Length: 1.5 hrs

Fee: $65 R/ $75 NR group



Water and Soil Conservation (Elective 15):Learn about erosion, pollution, and soil while on a hike at Irons Oaks.
Length: 1.5 hrs

Fee: $65 R/ $75 NR group



Webelos -
Forester: Discover the inside and outside of a tree and its role in the forest ecosystem. You'll also learn several native plant species.
Length: 1.5 hrs

Fee: $65 R/ $75 NR group



Naturalist: Learn a little bit about everything in this program! You'll become a junior naturalist by the end.
Length: 1.5 hrs

Merit Badges-

The following merit badges are offered by Certified Merit Badge Counselors.  These are offered for individual scouts throughout the year or can be scheduled for your troop of six of more. Call for more information and pricing.

Upcoming Boy Scout Merit Badges:

Summer Merit Badge Workshops are now available at Irons Oaks. Registration can be done online at hfparks.com or by calling 708-481-2330 and referencing the program codes listed below. Please be aware that there are PRE-REQUISITES required for all badges. While we try our best to complete activities within the alloted time frame, it is possible that scouts will not finish designated activtities. Please bring a water bottle, insect repellant, your workbook and dress to be outside. Scouts should fill out their signed, blue cards and bring with them.

 

Bird Study Merit Badge Workshops

Come discover the world of birds at Irons Oaks! **Pre-requisites for this badge: please complete requirement #2 and document at least 10 species for requirement #5. Scouts should each bring a clean and empty half gallon milk jug, orange juice container or 20 oz. plastic bottle with CAP.
