Full Moon Night Hike
3/10/2017 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Come hike at Irons Oaks when the moon is full and delight in the evening sights!  We will explore the forest while learning about nocturnal creatures and nighttime adaptations.  The evening will end with refreshments, songs, and stories around the campfire.  Please register by March 9th.

Facilitator Training

Put your leadership skills and love of the outdoor to work for you by taking the first step in certifying to be an Irons Oaks Teams Facilitator.  This 16 hour training covers the basics of facilitation.  $90 R/NR

Advanced Gardening

Planning for a garden is the first step.  The second is learning how to best care for it.  Join our experts as they discuss pruning, improving yield, crop rotation, companion planning and extending your garden season from early spring into late fall.

Flashlight Egg Hunt

Goody-filled eggs have been hidden in the forest.  Decorate a basket and hunt for eggs with your flashlight.  Register by noon on April 5.

Nature Tots

Bring your little ones to Irons Oaks and let them play and explore with one of our naturalists.  Seasonal topics will be presented.  This is a great opportunity for parents/caregivers of little ones to meet and have fun!  Parent/Adult must accompany child.

Adult Flashlight Egg Hunt

Join the Irons Oaks Foundation at the annual Adult Egg Hunt!  Please bring your own flashlight and basket.  Contest for the most creative basket.  Everyone goes home with a prize.

Earth Day Campfire Celebration

Celebrate Earth Day at Irons Oaks with an evening of stories, folklore and songs around a blazing fire.  The evening will end with a marshmallow roast.

Spring Clean Up

Lend a hand in restoring Irons Oaks.  Projects may include removal of invasive species, trail restoration, or other outdoor work.  Perfect for scouts and those who need community service hours.  Anyone under 18 needs a waiver signed by a parent or guardian.  Please register by April 21

Summer weather can create havoc in your garden!  Learn how to properly amend your soil to grow the healthiest plants by increasing moisture, attracting beneficial insects and cutting down on the need to weed.

Women's Adventure Day

Celebrate our extension of Women's History Month into April with a women-only High Ropes experience. Bring a friend or family member to help you conquer your fears 30 feet up in the trees, or come by yourself for a chance to meet new people and have a great adventure. (7th grade minimum age with parent/guardian signed waiver).

 

Dress for the weather. Program runs, rain , snow or shine. All participants must have an Irons Oaks Adventure Center waiver signed to participate. Please dress to be outdoors for the duration of the program. Please meet facilitators in Vollmer Rd. Parking Lot (2453 Vollmer Rd, Olympia Fields). Pre-registration required by 12:00 pm on April 21st, minimum 4 participants.

$20 Residents/$30 Non-Residents

Mother & Daughter Tea

Calling all mothers. grandmothers, godmothers, and mothers of the heart.  Come dressed in your finest for an elegant Mother's Day tea.  You will feast on a traditional afternoon tea menu and sip from a selection of teas as you enjoy live music, a tea cup raffle and a "best hat of the day" contest.  Bring your own favorite tea cup or use one of ours.

Enjoy your healthy harvest all year long by learning the basics of food preservation in this hands-on class.  Both canning and freezing will be discussed.  Each person will make tasty strawberry jam to take home and share with family and friends.
